How to Upgrade to the Unified Trading Account With Existing Futures Positions?

2026-07-29 00:4712820

[Estimated reading time: 3 minutes]

Note:

1. The position migration feature requires App version V2.94 or later. We recommend using the Web platform for upgrades to ensure you have the latest guidance.

2. This feature is being rolled out gradually. Coin-margined users are prioritized for access.

3. Under Coin-M Cross Margin mode, if there are ≥ 2 positions in the same direction, they will be automatically merged into one position by weighted average, with the leverage set to the highest leverage among the original positions. If the upgrade fails, please submit a ticket for further assistance.

Feature overview

When upgrading from a classic account to a unified trading account, you don't need to manually close your positions in advance. The system will automatically migrate USDT/USDC-M Futures (cross margin / isolated margin) and Coin-M perpetual futures (cross margin / isolated margin) to the unified trading account at the original average entry price with no loss. Bitget covers all fees, and the average entry price is fully preserved. Coin-M delivery futures, positions opened with position vouchers, and margin trading positions are not supported for automatic migration. You must manually close these positions before upgrading.

What changes after upgrading

Assets

The system will automatically transfer the balances from your classic account's spot, margin, and futures accounts to the unified trading account. Coins not supported by the unified trading account will be transferred to your funding account.

Why does the estimated liquidation price for Coin-M isolated margin positions change?

You may notice a significant change in the estimated liquidation price for your Coin-M isolated margin positions after migration. This is normal. The value displayed in the classic account fluctuates with current market prices, whereas the unified trading account displays a stable value that does not change with market fluctuations. The difference between the two is more pronounced when the market price is far from the actual liquidation range, and the values converge as the market price approaches the liquidation price.

Formulas:

1. Classic Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = (Position Margin * Margin Coin Mark Price + Quick Calculation Amount − Position Size × Avg Entry Price × Position Direction) / [Position Size × (Tier Maintenance Margin Rate + Taker Fee Rate − Position Direction)]

2. Unified Trading Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = Position Value * (Tier Maintenance Margin Rate + Taker Fee Rate + Position Direction) / (Position Margin + Position Direction * Position Value / Avg Entry Price)

Note: Position Direction is 1 for Long and 0 for Short.

Example:

Position Information (BTCUSD):

Long Position Size: 1.7 BTC, Position Margin: 2 BTC, Avg Entry Price: 100,000 USD, Tier Maintenance Margin Rate: 0.4%, Taker Fee Rate: 0.06%, Quick Calculation Amount: 0

When BTC price is 80,000 USD, for the same position:

Classic Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = (2 * 80000 - 1.7 * 100000 * 1) / (1.7 * (0.4% + 0.06% − 1)) = 5,909.54

Unified Trading Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = 1.7 * 100000 * (0.4% + 0.06% + 1) / (2 + 1 * 1.7 * 100000 / 100000) = 46,157.29

When the mark price drops to 48,000 USD, the estimated liquidation price for the above position:

Classic Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = (2 * 48000 - 1.7 * 100000 * 1) / (1.7 * (0.4% + 0.06% − 1)) = 43,730.572

Unified Trading Account Coin-M Isolated Margin Estimated Liquidation Price = 1.7 * 100000 * (0.4% + 0.06% + 1) / (2 + 1 * 1.7 * 100000 / 100000) = 46,157.29 (unchanged)

Upgrade requirements

Account status

• No open orders or outstanding liabilities in spot, margin, or futures

• Not within 5 minutes before or after the funding fee settlement window

• Futures and multi-asset accounts are not under risk control or ADL status

• MMR for each futures account is below 20% (subject to actual conditions)

Position and futures parameters

• No Coin-M delivery positions, cross-margin or isolated-margin trading positions, or futures positions opened with position vouchers (these must be closed manually)

• Up to 100 positions can be migrated per upgrade

• If you hold both USDT/USDC-M and Coin-M positions at the same time, the position mode must be consistent (either all one-way mode or all hedge mode)

• The leverage for each position must be ≤ the maximum leverage supported for that trading pair in the unified trading account

• The position value for each position must be ≤ the upper limit of the corresponding risk limit tier in the unified trading account

Requirements specific to isolated margin positions

• Isolated margin for a position cannot be negative (if negative, you must add margin before upgrading)

• The margin for isolated Coin-M positions must be in the base currency (i.e., the settlement currency of the futures; for example, BTC futures margin must be in BTC)

Handling upgrade failures

Note
How to resolve
Coin-M delivery futures positions are not currently supported for migration
Manually close all Coin-M delivery futures positions, then try again
Futures positions opened with position vouchers are not supported for migration
Manually close the positions opened with position vouchers, then try again
Account risk ratio too high
Add margin or reduce your position so that MMR is below 20%
Currently within a funding fee settlement window
Wait until 5 minutes past the hour, then try again
Account is under risk control
Wait until the risk control is lifted, then try again
This trading pair's position is not currently supported for migration
Manually close this position, then try again
Leverage exceeds limit
Lower the leverage for the corresponding trading pair in your classic account, then try again
Position size exceeds limit
Reduce your position size until it is within the limit, then try again
Insufficient funds
Deposit funds or reduce your position size (lower the quantity or leverage), then try again
Inconsistent futures position modes
Make the position mode (one-way mode / hedge mode) consistent between USDT/USDC-M and Coin-M Futures, then try again
Isolated margin balance is negative
Add margin to this isolated position until the balance is ≥ 0, then try again
Isolated margin is not in the base currency
Upgrading is not yet supported in this case. Manually close this isolated position, then try again
The current account does not support upgrading with existing positions
Try again in a few minutes. If the issue persists, contact customer service and provide your user ID

FAQs

1. Do I need to pay a fee to upgrade to the unified trading account?

No. All transaction fees for position migration during the upgrade are fully covered by the platform.

2. Which positions can be migrated automatically?

USDT/USDC-M futures (cross margin and isolated margin) and Coin-M perpetual futures (cross margin and isolated margin) can be migrated automatically. Automatic migration doesn't support Coin-M delivery futures, positions opened with position vouchers, or margin trading positions. You need to close these manually before upgrading.

3. Will my average entry price change after migration?

No. This upgrade migrates your positions at their original average entry price. The average entry price remains exactly the same before and after migration, and unrealized PnL carries over naturally. The upgrade will not result in additional settlement or losses.

4. Can isolated margin positions be migrated?

Yes. Isolated margin positions (USDT/USDC-M and Coin-M perpetual futures) can now be migrated during the upgrade. However, note that isolated margin cannot be negative, and the margin for isolated Coin-M positions must be in the settlement currency. Otherwise, you'll need to manually close the position first.

5. What's the maximum number of positions I can migrate in one upgrade?

Up to 100 positions can be carried over for the upgrade.

6. What margin mode will I be in after upgrading?

If you only hold USDT/USDC-margined positions (no multi-asset, no Coin-M positions), you'll enter Basic mode. If you hold coin-margined perpetual futures positions or multi-asset positions, you'll enter Advanced mode (all coins that support collateral are included in the margin).

7. Why did my upgrade fail?

The most common reasons are: the account has open orders, is under risk control, has too high a risk rate, holds a position type that is not supported for migration, or an isolated margin position does not meet the specific requirements (negative margin or margin not in the base currency). Please follow the on-page prompts to check each item, then try again.

8. Is it normal for the estimated liquidation price to differ significantly after the upgrade?

Yes, this is normal and depends on the position type.

• Cross-Margin Positions: If you hold Coin-M or multi-asset positions, you will enter Advanced Mode after upgrading. The margin pool expands from a single asset to a shared multi-asset, multi-currency account-wide margin. Even if position parameters remain unchanged, the estimated liquidation price will change based on the overall account margin status.

• Isolated Margin Positions: The calculation method for Coin-M isolated margin differs. In the classic account, the margin value is converted using the current mark price, causing the liquidation price to fluctuate with the market. In the unified trading account, it is calculated based on the fixed position value at the time of opening, resulting in a stable value. The difference is larger when the market price is far from the liquidation range and converges as it gets closer.

9. Why does the position value display differently after migration?

The classic and unified accounts use different bases for calculating "Position Value" for Coin-M contracts. The classic account calculates it in real-time based on the current mark price, which fluctuates with the market. The unified trading account calculates it based on the fixed average entry price, which does not change with market fluctuations and only updates when you adjust the position. This is merely a difference in display logic between the two systems; migration does not change your unrealized PnL.
