Announcement on Withholding Tax and Trading Arrangements for rTokens Related to US Publicly Traded Partnerships (PTPs)

Effective January 1, 2023, in accordance with Sections 1446(a) and (f) of the US Internal Revenue Code (IRC) issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding the latest withholding tax and information reporting regulations for non-US persons selling or transferring interests in Publicly Traded Partnerships (PTPs), relevant clients will incur the following US tax costs when holding, selling, trading, or transferring PTP-related securities:

Upon selling, trading, or transferring PTP-related securities: A 10% withholding tax will be deducted from the gross transaction amount.
Upon receiving dividend distributions: A withholding tax of 37% (for individual investors) or 21% (for corporate or institutional investors) will be deducted from the total dividend distribution amount.
Exemption: If a PTP security issues a public statement known as a "Qualified Notice," indicating that the PTP meets the requirements of IRC Section 1446(f)-4(b)(3), it may be exempt from this withholding tax.

Given the complexity of this withholding tax, Bitget has conducted an assessment and hereby notifies users of the following arrangements (which may be subject to change based on future developments):

All currently listed PTP rTokens meet the exemption requirements and are exempt from the withholding tax. Therefore, the 10% withholding tax on the gross transaction amount is not required to be deducted at this time.
However, it cannot be ruled out that the tax exemption period for these rTokens may expire in the future. There is a potential risk that a 10% tax rate may be deducted upon selling in the future. Clients are advised to independently monitor their trading risks.
For rTokens whose tax exemption period expires in the future, Bitget may consider suspending trading for those specific assets. Specific actions will be updated in subsequent announcements.
