The Executive Summary & Problem Statement: The "Why" In TradFi, we evaluate a business plan based on market demand and feasibility. When reading a crypto white paper, the Problem Statement is your starting point. The Banker’s Lens: Is this project solving a genuine problem, or is it creating a complex solution for a problem that doesn't exist? A white paper that does not link to third-party audits (like CertiK or Hacken) represents an unaudited financial system—a massive compliance risk. 4. Legal Disclaimers & Governance Structures This is where my BAMLCO instincts kick in. Traditional financial products are heavily regulated. In Web3, the legal framework is still evolving, but a serious project will always have a robust Legal Disclaimer and a defined governance model. The Banker’s Lens: Look at how the entity is structured. For example, protocols that operate under a Swiss Verein structure explicitly state that they do not issue equity, meaning the token itself holds the entire economic value and intellectual property [১১৩, ১৫৪]. Check if the disclaimer protects the protocol against securities laws (like the SEC guidelines or Europe's MiCA regulations). The Bottom Line for Bankers Transitioning from TradFi to DeFi compliance doesn't mean forgetting everything you know. It means applying your institutional risk management mindset to a more transparent, public ledger system. Reading a white paper is not just about understanding the code; it’s about auditing the economic sustainability, legal compliance, and operational viability of a digital asset.
