Samsung Electronics Labor and Management to Resume Negotiations Tomorrow
BlockBeats News, May 17th, according to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics labor and management will launch the second round of post-event mediation at 10:00 am (UTC+8) local time on the 18th.
Previously, the labor side announced that they would initiate an 18-day general strike starting on the 21st. Therefore, the focus is on whether the mediation can reach an agreement to resolve the conflict and avoid a strike. Under the mediation of the Central Labor Relations Commission, labor and management engaged in marathon negotiations from the 11th to the early morning of the 13th, but failed to narrow the differences on the performance bonus payment standards, leading to the breakdown of the negotiations. The Commission requested the labor side to resume negotiations on the 16th after they refused on the 14th. Both labor and management have accepted the mediation request, and the negotiations will resume after a 5-day hiatus.
Lee Jae-yong, the chairman of Samsung Electronics, returned to Korea on the 16th after a business trip overseas. Upon arriving at the Seoul Gimpo Business Aviation Center, he called on the labor side to return to the negotiating table. Lee Jae-yong stated that at this moment, we should unite our strength, move forward together in the same direction, and let us once again do our best, truly honoring the spirit of being a 'Samsung person.' Minister of Employment and Labor, Kwon Ki-moon, also met with the labor and management sides on the 15th and 16th, respectively, to explain the government's position and coordinate opinions.
