Mainland man arrested in Hong Kong for alleged suicide attempt after cryptocurrency investment loss, suspected of carrying gasoline and a lighter
Foresight News reports that, according to Hong Kong media, a 34-year-old mainland man traveled to Hong Kong with a two-way permit and, after losing approximately 500,000 yuan on a cryptocurrency platform, allegedly expressed suicidal tendencies and stated plans to visit Hong Kong in a post on social media. Upon receiving the relevant information, law enforcement launched an investigation and intercepted the man around 12:30 pm on May 14 in a fast food restaurant on Jinzhong Road. Officers found a lighter and suspected gasoline on him. Police arrested him on suspicion of "possession of articles with intent to destroy or damage property" and he is currently detained for investigation. The report notes that no one was injured in the incident and there was no need to evacuate the premises. The man is said to have repeatedly complained to the relevant platform regarding his investment losses, but did not receive a satisfactory response.
