Ronin to migrate to Ethereum Layer 2 on May 12, with a temporary 10-hour shutdown
According to ChainCatcher, citing CoinDesk, the gaming public chain Ronin, which powers Axie Infinity, will undergo a hard fork on May 12 and migrate from an independent sidechain to an Ethereum Layer 2 network. This is expected to result in approximately 10 hours of network downtime, during which all transfers, swaps, smart contract interactions, and on-chain gaming activities will be suspended.
This upgrade will introduce the OP Stack architecture and a “Proof of Distribution” allocation model, rewarding builders based on their actual contribution to the network. At the same time, the RON inflation rate will drop significantly from over 20% to below 1%, and the 90 million RON originally intended for staking rewards will be moved to the treasury fund. Market transaction fees will increase from 0.5% to 1.25% in order to enhance security, scalability, and to reshape the tokenomics.
