Meta is said to have postponed the release of its mixed reality glasses to 2027
Meta Postpones Launch of New Mixed Reality Glasses
Meta is working on a new pair of mixed reality glasses, internally referred to as Phoenix, as reported by Business Insider. Originally set to debut in the latter half of 2026, the launch has now been moved to early 2027.
While Meta already offers VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, this upcoming device is expected to differ in design. Sources suggest it will resemble the Apple Vision Pro and feature a puck-shaped external battery.
According to Business Insider, internal communications from Meta leadership confirmed the postponement. The decision reportedly followed discussions where CEO Mark Zuckerberg encouraged the team to prioritize long-term viability and enhanced user experiences, even if it meant extending the timeline.
Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, who oversee Meta’s metaverse initiatives, indicated that the additional time will allow the team to refine the product and perfect its features.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg also revealed that Meta intends to reduce its metaverse spending by as much as 30%.
