US Senator Elizabeth Warren questions Commerce Secretary pick over ties to stablecoin issuer Tether
US Senator Elizabeth Warren has raised concerns about Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and US President Donald Trump's Commerce Secretary nominee, due to his investment firm's connection with stablecoin issuer Tether. Warren has questioned Lutnick's ability to prioritize the interests of the American people over his personal financial interests if he is confirmed as Secretary of the Department of Commerce. She has asked Lutnick a list of questions, including his current financial stake in Tether and any conversations he has had with Trump administration officials about Tether, which she wants answered by February 10. Warren has previously called for stricter regulations for the crypto industry.
