Arbitrum DAO launches BoLD protocol voting, plans to upgrade mainnet security mechanism in February
According to a report from The Block, Arbitrum DAO has launched an improvement proposal (AIP) vote, planning to upgrade Arbitrum One and Nova chains to the Bounded Liquidity Delay (BoLD) protocol. The protocol has been running on the testnet since April 2024. If the proposal is approved, it will be implemented on the two mainnet chains in February 2025.
The BoLD protocol aims to strengthen the security of Arbitrum's withdrawal to the Ethereum mainnet, introducing a fixed time window (about 13 days plus a 2-day grace period) to resolve chain state disputes. This mechanism will shift the verification permission from a whitelist system to complete openness, allowing anyone to participate in network security verification, effectively reducing the risk of malicious delay attacks.
