Paraguayan authorities seize nearly 400 Bitcoin mining machines in Sapucay
Paraguayan authorities have seized nearly 400 Bitcoin mining machines in Sapucai. The operation was carried out jointly by the police and the National Electricity Administration (ADE) as part of an investigation into alleged electricity theft. (Bitcoin News) Earlier, the Paraguayan government urged legislators to pass a bill that would impose up to 10 years in prison for illegal Bitcoin miners, in response to the large-scale electricity theft that threatens the National Electricity Administration (ANDE). The bill provides that Paraguayan police and prosecutors have the power to seize and sell illegal mining machines to protect ANDE from the huge economic losses caused by energy theft. In this crackdown, more than 5,000 ASIC mining machines have been seized this year, and the legislative process could also lead to a temporary ban on Bitcoin mining in the country.
