SEC Commissioner Peirce: Regulator in "Enforcement-Only Mode" for Crypto Industry
Hester Peirce, a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has stated that the SEC is currently in an "enforcement-only mode" when it comes to cryptocurrency. Speaking at ETHDenver, Peirce expressed her frustration with the lack of clarity surrounding regulations for the industry, and highlighted the need for clearer rules to allow developers and investors to focus on building. Peirce has been an advocate for cryptocurrency since joining the SEC in 2018, but has faced skepticism from some of her colleagues, including current Chair Gary Gensler. Despite the SEC's litigious approach, Peirce believes that regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrency should continue to be developed.
